I was thinking of going with a set of Klipsch speakers, either bookshelf or floor standing.Īnd, I was thinking of going with an integrated amplifier over a tuner, as I don't listen to the radio much through my main stereo.īudget? Try to keep it at $1,500 or under. I also don't want to get the neighbors ticked off. Volume-wise, this system goes as loud as I need it. The Parasound HCA-1201As minimal, no-frills chassis could account for its light weight, as could the possibility of it being a balanced-bridged design, like the Adcom GFA-1/GFA-1A, Soundcraftsmen PCR-800, PM-840, etc., models which deliver output in the 200 watt per channel range, in a package barely over 20lbs.
#Soundcraftsmen pcr 800 amplifier driver#
I know you have to hear speakers live to judge them accurately, but over the years I've found that I tend to like two-way speakers over three-way, as the addition of the mid range driver tends to make them a little brash for my taste. My first amp was a Soundcraftsman PCR 800 which I purchased back in 1982 from Crazy Eddie's (anyone from the N.Y N.J area should be quite familiar with Crazy Eddie's)and was built to handle loads down to 2 ohms with no difficulty and you could actually bridge two of them together with an external adapter for 400 wpc. I'd be glad to have one again if the price was right. ANd I'm by no means dissing the Soundcraftsmen amps. Sound-wise, the Bose are a very balanced, not overly bright two-way speaker system. I recall that both the PCR 800 and the amp I moved up to (can't remember the model number) had a rather frightening turn on thump as does my Adcom. What do you have, and what do you recommend to replace this system? This set up sounds very good, but it's about 30 years old. Right now, I have an old SAE power amp, 100 watts per channel, a Gemini pre amp (forgot which model,) and a pair of Bose 501V speakers. I'm think of getting some new stereo components.
